Buying a sofa without sitting on it sounds reckless. It isn't — if you check the five things a showroom visit would have told you. We've sold sofas in person for over twenty years; this is the checklist we run for online clients before anything is ordered.

1. Tape it on the floor

Take the width and depth off the product page and tape the footprint on your floor in painter's tape. Walk around it for a day. Almost every sofa regret is a scale regret, and this eliminates it in ten minutes. Rule of thumb: leave at least 30 inches for walkways and 16–18 inches between sofa and coffee table.

2. Read the depth like a designer

Overall depth tells you how the sofa fits the room; seat depth tells you how it fits you. Around 21–22 inches suits people who sit upright and readers who perch; 24 inches and up is for loungers and nappers. Tall household? Prioritize deeper seats and higher backs.

3. Get the fabric in your hands

Color on a screen is a rumor. We'll mail you free swatches of any fabric or leather we carry — look at them in your room, in daylight and lamplight, next to your rug and your walls. If you share the house with kids, dogs, or white wine, tell us; performance weaves and top-grain leather forgive almost everything.

4. Check the door math

Measure your narrowest doorway, hallway turn, or stairwell. Compare it to the sofa's diagonal depth (ask us if it isn't listed). White-glove crews are good, but geometry always wins.

5. Ask a person

This is the part most sites can't offer: before you buy, talk to one of our designers — free, by phone or video. Tell us the room, the light, and who sits there, and we'll tell you honestly whether the sofa you're looking at is the right one, or point you at the one that is.

Every sofa we sell arrives white glove: scheduled, carried in, placed, unpacked, packaging gone. Browse the sofa collection with your tape measure handy — or send us a photo of the room through Your Space and we'll build the whole plan around it.
