A living room for a Naples condo

14 x 20 feet · lanai along the west wall · coastal and breezy · budget $7,500 and up

A bright coastal living room: cream sofa under a pale blue horizon canvas, jute rug, rattan pendant and floor lamp, two pale blue chairs around a travertine coffee table
This is a sample. On your page, this photo is your actual room, taken on your phone, and everything below is chosen against it.

What we saw

West light off the water, which is the good kind in the afternoon and the brutal kind in July. That ruled out anything glossy or dark and pushed the whole plan toward matte weaves and pale wood that hold up in full sun.

The room is long and a little narrow, so the seating runs with the long wall and the chairs face the lanai, because the view is the reason you bought the place. Then one rule for everything else: one color, three textures. The color is the pale blue of the chairs and the pillows. The textures are jute underfoot, rattan overhead and beside the sofa, and travertine in the middle. Everything else stays white, cream, or raw wood — which is how a room reads bright and warm at the same time instead of bright and empty.

The scale check

A quick check that the sizes actually work in the room.

Your long wall20 ft
Tidewater Sofa8 ft 6 in
Imperia Rug, 8'6" x 11'6"11 ft 6 in
Bare floor at each end of the rug4 ft 3 in

The rug runs 18 inches past the sofa at both ends, and the front legs of the sofa and both chairs land on it — which is what makes a room read as one piece instead of three. In a room this size, a 5 x 8 would look undersized.

The plan

Thirteen pieces, with a note on why each one is here.

  1. Tidewater Sofa

    The anchor

    Tidewater Sofa

    $3,999 $4,745

Eight and a half feet of pale greige on small dark feet, so the whole thing looks like it is floating. Loose back cushions you can beat into shape. In a bright room the sofa should be the quietest thing in it, and this one is.

Fit: 102" against a 240" wall leaves almost 6 ft of air — the floor lamp lives at one end, the walkway at the other.

  2. Imperia Handmade Rug

    The foundation

    Imperia Handmade Rug, 8'6" x 11'6"

    $1,199 $1,725

Buy this first. Honest golden jute, hand woven, tight and nubby — the smell of a good beach house. It is the warmth in the plan: every white above it reads creamy instead of clinical because of what is underfoot.

Fit: takes sand and wet feet without complaint. There is a free 18" sample on the product page — order it, drop it on the tile, decide in daylight.

  3. Dockside Accent Chair

    The pair

    Dockside Accent Chair × 2

    $2,598 $1,299 each · $1,570

Pale ash frame, rope-wrapped arms, a soft blue cushion — the one color in the room, worn twice. They face the lanai, angled a few degrees toward each other so the room converses instead of lining up.

Fit: 27" wide each, front legs on the rug, backs to the light. The open frame keeps the sightline to the water clear from the front door.

  4. Gazebo Coffee Table

    The middle

    Gazebo Coffee Table

    $1,799 $2,125

A 39" round of cream travertine on three sculpted wood columns. Stone on wood is the fastest way to make a living room look designed, and a round table is the right call when two chairs face a sofa — nobody clips a corner.

Fit: pulled 16 in off the sofa. Close enough to set a drink down without standing up, far enough to walk past.

  5. Cairn Side Table, Natural

    The landing spot

    Cairn Side Table, Natural

    $649 $780

A solid mango block with an arch cut through each face — heavy from across the room, light up close. It holds the lamp and a book, which is all an end table should be asked to do.

Fit: 20" high at the sofa arm, so the lamp reads at the right level from every seat.

  6. Creel Pendant

    Light, above

    Creel Pendant

    $1,599 $1,920

A woven dome almost three feet across, centered over the travertine. During the day it is sculpture; at dusk it drops a warm pool onto the stone and the whole room gathers around it.

Fit: hang the bottom edge at 7 ft over the table — presence from every seat, and nobody ducks.

  7. Curlew Accent Floor Lamp

    Light, high

    Curlew Accent Floor Lamp

    $1,299 $1,455

A rattan column with a woven shade, five feet of texture at the quiet end of the sofa. It repeats the pendant’s weave at standing height, which is what makes the two read as a decision instead of a coincidence.

Fit: bottom of the shade at seated eye level. On the same switch loop as the table lamp so one click turns the room on.

  8. Glow Accent Table Lamp

    Light, low

    Glow Accent Table Lamp

    $499 $525

A smooth mint-cream ceramic cone — sea glass, if sea glass glowed. The third of the three heights. A room lit at one height always looks like a waiting area, no matter what furniture is in it.

Fit: 29" on the 20" Cairn puts the shade bottom just below standing eye level. Put it on a dimmer-plug and it earns its keep twice over.

  9. Chicory Pillow

    The finish, part one

    Chicory Pillow × 2, 20", down inserts

    $238 $119 each · $145

Chambray-blue slub weave with a thin copper thread running through it — the chairs’ blue, echoed on the sofa so the palette closes its loop. Outside corners, chopped once.

Fit: 20" square against a 33" back, down inserts included so they arrive ready to style.

  10. Trefoil Pillow

    The finish, part two

    Trefoil Pillow × 2, 22", down inserts

    $258 $129 each · $155

Cream with a single hand-stitched charcoal line. These sit inside the blue pair, one size larger, which is the layering trick that makes a sofa look styled by someone rather than shipped with pillows.

Fit: mix three textures per sofa, not three colors, and it will always look intentional.

  11. Seaglass Throw

    The layer

    Seaglass Throw

    $99 $115

Woven bands of pale blue, sand and grey with a short fringe. Reads as beach without anything on it being literally a shell. Folded once over a chair arm, not draped like a magazine is watching.

Fit: machine wash cold, which matters in a house where people come in from the pool.

  12. Cerchio Vase

    The object

    Cerchio Vase

    $299

A marbled white sculpture with a circle cut through its center, on the travertine with a few stems of something green. The last five percent of a room is objects with some hand to them. This is that five percent.

Fit: 17" high — tall enough to matter from the sofa, low enough to talk over.

  13. Foglia Canvas Art

    The wall

    Foglia Canvas Art

    $559 $745

A hand-painted horizon in pale blue, sand and grey — the view off the lanai, distilled to a canvas. It ties the chairs, the pillows and the jute together on the one wall that was still empty.

Fit: 60" wide over the 102" sofa — about two-thirds the sofa’s width, hung with the bottom edge 8–10 in above the back cushions.
